About

Dr. Bliss received his DVM degree from Cornell University in 1996.  Following a one-year rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at North Carolina State University, Dr. Bliss returned to Cornell and completed residency training in small animal surgery in 2000.  He completed a one-year fellowship in small animal orthopedics in 2001 and became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2003.  Dr. Bliss subsequently completed his PhD in the field of Comparative Biomedical Science also at Cornell.  He served on the faculty at the veterinary college at Cornell from 2007-2010 in the section of small animal surgery.  Dr. Bliss is experienced in all aspects of small animal surgery.  He has strong interests in orthopedics and physical rehabilitation and completed the certification program in canine rehabilitation through the University of Tennessee in 2009.

Dr. Bliss has published widely in both scientific and veterinary journals.  He also has extensive teaching experience and maintains an active schedule of lectures and professional presentations.  He joined Port City in August 2010. In 2012, Dr. Bliss was promoted to Medical Director at Port City Veterinary Referral Hospital.  In 2016, Dr. Bliss decided to step down from the medical director position to re-dedicate his energies to surgery and patient care.
